Funneling: Catcher Drill

Catchers have many jobs. One of the most important is to “keep a strike a strike”

In the video below Coach Brandon Buck, former State Championship Coach at Mountain Pointe (AZ),  shows you the tools and techniques that enable every catcher  to “keep a strike a strike”.

Coach Buck provides all of the key coaching points and drills you will need to teach your catcher how to funnel the ball towards his chest.

Coach Buck believes that the funneling technique is a better alternative to teaching a catcher to frame the pitch.

This clip is just a sample of the drills and coaching points that are available in Coach Buck’s instructional DVD. For more information regarding that DVD click the link Drill Progressions for Developing Catchers

  1. Coach – quick question. I have a couple of young catchers who “lunge” at the ball – sometimes to the point that they dive at it. Any suggestions on drills to correct this?? Thanks

  2. I like this drill a lot. Very simple, but at the same time teaches proper body position and glove hand movement (quiet hands). Helps to develop “receivers” instead of “stabbers” behind the plate.
